The Mandate Movement (TMM), Badagry Chapter, has strongly denied claims that it has endorsed any candidate for the position of Chairman, Badagry Local Government. In a press release issued today, TMM described such reports as false, misleading, and aimed at creating division within its ranks.

Badagry Today reported yesterday that a rift had emerged within the Mandate Movement Group, a political faction under the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Badagry, over the purported endorsement of Hon. Babatunde Hunpe, the immediate past member of the House of Representatives for Badagry Federal Constituency.

Loyalists of the Commissioner for Home Affairs, Hon. Olanrewaju Ibrahim Layode, who serves as the Principal Coordinator of the group in Badagry Local Government, have disowned the alleged endorsement of Hon. Babatunde Hunpe as the preferred chairmanship candidate.

The aggrieved members described the endorsement process as a "kangaroo arrangement" that should not be recognized.

According to a statement signed by Akindele Todeji Ogunlana, Chairman of the Badagry Chapter, TMM is not a political party and, therefore, lacks the authority to conduct any form of selection process or endorsement. The group emphasized that any meeting allegedly held to endorse a candidate was unauthorized and did not have the approval of the state leadership.

“The Mandate Movement has not endorsed any candidate, and any claims to the contrary should be disregarded. Such rumours are the handiwork of individuals trying to manipulate the process for their own selfish interests,” Ogunlana stated.

The statement also criticized efforts by certain individuals to impose a candidate on the movement through dubious means, warning that such tactics raise serious concerns about the credibility and leadership qualities of both the individuals involved and the aspirant they support.

TMM reaffirmed its commitment to fairness, unity, and the collective progress of Badagry, urging members to remain focused and not be swayed by divisive propaganda.

“The Mandate! We Lead, Others Follow! the statement concluded, reinforcing the movement’s resolve to maintain transparency and integrity in its activities.
