The Catholic Arch-Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah has been officially inaugurated as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the newly established Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia (FUASK).

The inauguration ceremony, held in Abuja, was presided over by the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, who emphasized the federal government’s commitment to ensuring the smooth take-off of the university. Unlike many newly established institutions that struggle with funding, FUASK will commence operations with a dedicated budgetary allocation, ensuring stability and rapid progress.

Speaking at the event, Bishop Kukah hailed the establishment of FUASK as a transformative intervention in the region, stating that with the university’s presence, “60% of the problems in Southern Kaduna have now been solved.” He described the institution as a divine instrument for fostering growth, development, and peace in the area.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration has been lauded for prioritizing education and infrastructure in underserved regions. His appointments to FUASK’s leadership reflect a commitment to academic excellence and inclusivity. Alongside Bishop Kukah, the President named Prof. Qurix Williams Barnabas as Vice-Chancellor, Sanusi Gambo Adamu as Registrar, Ibrahim Dalhat as Bursar, and Prof. Daniel Abubakar as University Librarian.

The university’s Governing Council also includes prominent figures from across Nigeria, including Mr. Thomas Etuh (North Central), Chief Fabian Nwaora (South East), Prof. Femi Taiwo (South West), and Zarah Bukar (North East).

With FUASK set to play a critical role in technical and applied sciences education, stakeholders believe its establishment is a major step toward addressing the educational and developmental challenges in Southern Kaduna.
