A cloud of uncertainty has enveloped the Dagbolu community in Osogbo Local Government Area of Osun State as the family of a 25-year-old man, Joseph Abodunrin, desperately searches for his body after he allegedly took his own life due to economic hardship.
Abodunrin, who had repeatedly expressed distress over the rising cost of living, reportedly left behind a series of social media messages indicating his intention to end his life. However, despite sharing his location before the act, his remains have not been found, leaving his family and the community in distress.
His cousin, Grace Abodunrin, confirmed the development on Thursday via her X (formerly Twitter) handle, describing him as a supportive brother who hid his struggles behind smiles.
“I still feel shattered. You were the best brother. You encouraged us all, but you went to voice out in a space we couldn’t think of. You hid it all from us. Now, we can’t get over it,” she wrote.
Joseph’s social media posts had long hinted at his emotional turmoil. On January 31, 2025, he tweeted:
“If not for my siblings, I would not commit suicide. Those younglings are still full of optimism, hope, and dreams that I don’t want to squash with the news of my death.”
On March 24, the day he was feared to have ended his life, he revisited the tweet and added:
“I’m sorry I failed you guys, I couldn’t just do it anymore… No matter how I explain it, you won’t understand!!!”
In his final messages, he urged others to keep fighting and revealed that he had left his account passwords in the first page of his diary.
Despite his detailed farewell note, confusion persists as his body remains missing. Checks revealed that the location he mentioned,‘Dagbolu,’ is no longer active, further complicating the search efforts.
When contacted, Osun State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Akeem Adeoye, said he was unaware of the incident but promised to provide updates if any new developments emerged, report by Punch Says
Abodunrin had celebrated his 25th birthday on February 6, 2025, just weeks before his mysterious disappearance.
