Residents who spoke on the incident clarified that the soldiers had approached EKEDC officials for urgent assistance in addressing a fire outbreak behind the quarters of their commanding officer, who was away on an official assignment.
According to Mr. Asogba Nuho, an eyewitness, the fire was triggered by an electrical fault from an EKEDC high-voltage supply. When the soldiers sought the intervention of EKEDC personnel, a misunderstanding ensued with an official in charge of the switchboard, leading to a brief altercation in which a soldier slapped the official.
However, Nuho emphasized that the matter was quickly resolved, and the officials eventually accompanied the soldiers to inspect the affected area around 1 a.m. They were safely returned to their office by 4 a.m.
“There was nothing like an attack. It was simply a misunderstanding, which was amicably settled,” he stated.
Another resident, Mr. John Moses, also refuted the reports of an assault, affirming that the issue was swiftly mediated by the Badagry Divisional Police Officer, CSP Folajimi Awosile.
The clarification from eyewitnesses puts to rest any allegations of military aggression, reinforcing that the incident was a case of miscommunication rather than an attack.
