Marking Global Recycling Day 2025, Ashade emphasized the urgent need to rethink waste management, describing recyclables as the "Seventh Resource" that can help curb environmental degradation. He highlighted the alarming reality of finite natural resources and the devastating effects of climate change, including rising temperatures, melting ice caps, and widespread deforestation.
“The last decade was the hottest on record, a clear signal that we are facing a climate crisis unlike anything humanity has seen before,” Ashade stated. “This crisis doesn’t just affect the planet—it affects all of us. Communities are displaced, economies are disrupted, jobs are lost, ecosystems are destroyed, and we are left with waste mountains threatening our environment.”
According to Ashade, recycling plays a crucial role in mitigating these challenges. By preventing waste accumulation and reducing the demand for raw materials, the practice contributes to a cleaner, safer planet. He noted that recycling currently saves over 700 million tons of CO2 emissions annually, a figure projected to reach 1 billion tons by 2030.
“At Green Janitors, we are proud to be part of this global movement, driving change and making a lasting impact,” Ashade said. “Together, we are on the front lines of a war for the future of our planet and humanity.”
As part of the Global Recycling Day message, Ashade expressed deep appreciation for individuals working in the recycling industry, calling them “unsung heroes” whose dedication helps turn waste into valuable resources. He encouraged continued efforts in recycling, innovation, and sustainability to ensure a better future.
With hashtags such as #RecyclingHeroes, #Sustainability, and #ActNow, the statement serves as both a celebration of progress and a rallying cry for urgent action. Green Janitors remains committed to promoting a circular economy and advocating for sustainable waste management practices across Nigeria and beyond.
