Speaking in Abeokuta, Ogun State, the National Publicity Secretary of LP, Abayomi Arabambi, described the political turbulence in the Lagos Assembly as evidence of deep-rooted undemocratic practices within the All Progressives Congress (APC). He said the APC had turned Lagos into a “captured territory” and accused the ruling party of suppressing democracy through “unconstitutional” means.
Arabambi condemned what he called Sanwo-Olu's “undue silence” over the crisis, stating that the 36 lawmakers who backed Obasa’s removal should take decisive action. “If the governor refuses to address the allegations against Obasa, these lawmakers must initiate impeachment proceedings against him. Lagos cannot continue under a government that shields corrupt officials,” he declared.
The LP reaffirmed its readiness to welcome the embattled lawmakers into its fold, urging them to join forces with its 2023 governorship candidate, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, to “rescue Lagos from APC’s stranglehold.” Arabambi also dismissed criticism from former PDP governorship candidate Abdul-Azeez Adeniran, reiterating that Rhodes-Vivour remains LP's candidate for the 2027 election.
He concluded by calling on Lagosians to reject the APC in 2027, emphasizing that Rhodes-Vivour is “positioned to take over leadership” and restore true democracy to the state.
