In a significant push towards skill-based education, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has announced the introduction of vocational training and ICT education in schools across the state. This initiative, he said, will equip students with practical skills and digital literacy to prepare them for the evolving job market.

The governor made this revelation during the unveiling of new classroom blocks at several schools in Badagry, including Ipara Junior College, Majiyagbe; State Junior High School, Ibereko; Awori Junior College, Ojo; and Thogli Community Grammar School. The projects were executed by the Committee on the Rehabilitation of Public Schools.

Sanwo-Olu emphasized that the state government is committed to ensuring that every child in Lagos has access to modern learning facilities, vocational education, and technology-driven resources. He noted that these developments would not only benefit students but also empower entire communities with essential skills for the future.

“These milestones underscore our dedication to providing quality education, vocational training, and enhanced digital literacy for every child, regardless of their background or location,” the governor stated.

Furthermore, the Lagos State Government is set to complete the reconstruction of the ultra-modern Tolu School Complex in Ajegunle, Ajeromi-Ifelodun. The new complex will house 36 schools, an ICT hub, an inclusive school, a health centre, a fire station, and a multi-purpose sports complex, reinforcing the administration’s commitment to holistic education.

Represented by his Special Adviser on Agriculture, Dr Oluwarotimi Fashola, at Thogli Community Grammar School, Badagry, Sanwo-Olu reiterated his administration’s resolve to bridge the educational gap between urban and rural areas.

“This project reflects our determination to ensure that no child is left behind in our drive for educational excellence. We are integrating vocational and ICT training into the curriculum to equip students with the skills necessary for the modern economy,” he said.

Chairman of Badagry Local Government, Teliat Olumide, lauded the initiative, urging students and the community to take full advantage of the new facilities and maintain them for future generations.

With this initiative, Lagos is set to become a model for skill-oriented education, ensuring that students graduate not only with academic knowledge but also with practical expertise to thrive in today’s competitive world.
