Man Brutalized by Hired Thugs Over Alleged Theft Accuses Badagry Police of Bias, Cries for Justice

A young man identified as Dasi Wajud Olakunle, has accused the Badagry Police of bias after allegedly being brutalized by thugs hired by a local trader, Mrs. Dupe, also known as Iya Samuel. Wajud, who was accused of stealing 100,000 CFA (approximately ₦240,000), claimed that despite reporting the assault, the police failed to take decisive action against his attackers, report by CityMood Badagry say.

According to Wajud, the ordeal began on March 3, 2025, when Mrs. Dupe, a coconut trader, accused him and two others of stealing money from her residence on Elyon Street, Badagry. Instead of involving law enforcement, he said they were taken to a church where they were ordered to wait for three days for divine revelation on the real thief.

Fearful for his safety, Wajud attempted to travel to Ado-Odo, Ogun State, to inform his parents but was advised by his elder brother to delay his trip. He spent the night in Imeke before returning to Badagry the next day.

According to CityMood Badagry, upon his return on March 4, 2025, he alleged that Mrs. Dupe ordered a man named Senu to tie him up and beat him. Soon, two other thugs joined in, flogging him with canes and sticks while demanding a confession. His iPhone 12 Pro was reportedly seized before he was restrained and subjected to a degrading assault, including being doused with an unknown liquid. The attack escalated as more individuals, including Mrs. Dupe herself, joined in.

Under severe duress, Wajud confessed to the crime but later retracted his statement upon release. He was rushed to Estherhood Hospital in Ado-Odo, Ogun State, where he received treatment for three days.

His elder brother, Dasi Suliamon Olamilekan, described Mrs. Dupe as a benefactor who had housed and employed them for years. However, he expressed disappointment over the inhumane treatment meted out to his brother. Their father, Mr. Dasi Nutayi, a peasant farmer, also defended his son’s integrity, emphasizing that none of his children had a history of theft. He alleged that Mrs. Dupe admitted to orchestrating the attack, believing their family lacked the resources to seek justice.

Determined to hold his attackers accountable, Wajud reported the case to the Badagry Police on March 7, leading to Mrs. Dupe’s arrest. However, to his shock, she was released within days, and none of the other assailants were arrested or invited for questioning. He claimed that despite the severity of his injuries, which have left him unable to walk or sit properly, the police have shown little interest in pursuing justice.

Now, Wajud is crying out for justice, urging authorities to take action against those responsible for his brutalization.

As of the time of this report, CityMood's report says it yet to receive a response from the Lagos State Police spokesperson regarding the incident.
