“This development is crucial for Badagry, where cross-border trade and services depend heavily on seamless communication. Improved telecommunications infrastructure will not only enhance digital access but also boost economic activities and support local businesses,” he said.

“While the additional infrastructure is welcome, we must ensure that connectivity remains affordable. Many Nigerians struggle with exorbitant tariffs and poor network quality, making digital access more of a luxury than a necessity,” Olatunde told NAN.
He called for a comprehensive strategy that prioritizes not only expansion but also affordability and service reliability. “Our people cannot fully benefit from digital advancements if they are priced out of connectivity. We are ready to collaborate with stakeholders to find sustainable solutions,” he added.
Chairpersons from other Lagos councils also echoed their support. Epe LG Chairperson, Ms. Surah Animashahun, highlighted the potential for improved network coverage to boost local businesses, enhance e-learning, and strengthen security.
Ikorodu LG Chairman, Mr. Wasiu Adesina, noted that the initiative would stimulate job creation, as more hands would be needed to manage and maintain the new infrastructure.
With the support of local government leaders, the Federal Government’s initiative is seen as a bold move toward digital inclusivity and economic empowerment, ensuring that even the most remote communities have access to quality telecommunications services.
