Command spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin clarified on Wednesday that while Ogunbode’s disappearance had been reported, there was no evidence to support claims that his mutilated body was found, as suggested in various social media posts.
“A report was made to the police about a missing graduate, and three suspects, including a prophet, have been arrested. However, the police have not discovered any mutilated body, as widely circulated. Ogunbode remains missing, and the case is being treated as a missing person investigation, not murder. There is no dead body anywhere,” Hundeyin stated.
Despite this clarification, the management of LASU, in a statement issued by Deputy Registrar Oluwayemisi Thomas-Onashile, had earlier expressed concerns over reports that Ogunbode had been killed. The university called for a thorough investigation and justice for the missing graduate.
“The university management is deeply saddened by the disappearance of Ogunbode, a recent graduate of Political Science Education. Reports received suggested he had been killed by a prophet in the Ojo area, allegedly for ritual purposes. He was last seen on January 16,” the statement read.
While urging security agencies to ensure a thorough investigation, the institution also called on the university community to remain calm and vigilant.
“The safety and security of our students remain our top priority. We are committed to working closely with law enforcement to maintain a safe environment for all,” LASU assured.
The police have reiterated their commitment to uncovering the truth and ensuring that those involved in Ogunbode’s disappearance are brought to justice. Investigations remain ongoing.
