The closed-door session, which lasted nearly two hours, saw Obasa arriving separately at 2:50 pm, escorted directly into the President’s office, while other lawmakers, ferried in two coaster buses, were taken through the forecourt route.
Though the agenda of the meeting remained undisclosed, insider sources suggest that it was linked to the recent leadership crisis in the Lagos Assembly, where Obasa was impeached before being reinstated following political intervention.
According to Vanguard, as the lawmakers emerged from the meeting around 4:30 pm, they broke into a spirited chorus of “On your mandate, we shall stand”—a popular rallying cry for President Tinubu. Their unified chant echoed through the Villa forecourt for nearly five minutes, underscoring where their allegiance truly lay.
Obasa, on the other hand, exited the meeting in stark contrast—silent and visibly avoiding the press. Flanked by House of Representatives member Rt. Hon. James Faleke, he resisted multiple attempts by journalists to extract comments. When pressed, Faleke gave a terse response: “It went well.”
Unconfirmed reports indicate that some lawmakers may have apologized to Obasa following his impeachment. However, the overwhelming display of loyalty to Tinubu raises questions about the Speaker’s standing within his own ranks.
Obasa’s impeachment saga, which saw him temporarily ousted before being reinstated on March 3, 2025, with the intervention of APC stalwarts and the Lagos State Governing Advisory Council (GAC), may have ended officially—but the political aftershocks continue to unfold.
