The high-stakes operation unfolded around 6:45 a.m. when a distressed man approached Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) officers at a BP filling station on Louis Botha Avenue. The victim reported that he had been robbed at the intersection of 7th Street and Louis Botha Avenue by a gang of five in a red Volkswagen Jetta. The criminals had not only stolen his money and cellphones but had also drained funds from his bank account.
Acting immediately, the officers took the victim along to identify the perpetrators and their vehicle. With reinforcements from private security, JMPD’s CCTV unit, Tactical Response Units (TRU), and the South African Police Service (SAPS), they tracked the suspect vehicle to a location near Pick 'n Pay in Bramley View.
A well-coordinated sting operation inside the mall led to the successful arrest of all five suspects. Upon search, officers recovered the victim's stolen belongings, confirming their involvement in the crime.
The suspects, including the two audacious female robbers, have been charged with robbery and possession of stolen property. They are currently in custody at Norwood SAPS, awaiting their court appearance.
