The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) has officially scheduled Saturday, July 12, 2025, for the conduct of local government elections across the state, report by PM News has said

This development was confirmed in a statement released by the Commission’s Head of Public Affairs, Mr. Tope Ojo, and made available to journalists on Thursday.

In accordance with Section 21 of the LASIEC Law 2008 (as amended), the Notice of Election has been issued for the offices of Chairmen and Councilors in all 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs), 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs), and 376 wards across Lagos State.

The electoral process is set to begin with political campaigns from Friday, April 18, 2025, and will conclude on Wednesday, July 9, 2025. A strategic meeting between LASIEC and all registered political parties will precede this, scheduled for Tuesday, April 15, followed by the publication of election guidelines on Thursday, April 17.

LASIEC has also earmarked Saturday, July 19, 2025, for a possible run-off or re-run election, should the need arise.

As part of the preparations, political parties have been directed to obtain nomination and other relevant forms from the Commission's headquarters for their respective candidates. The submission window for nomination forms for substituted or confirmed candidates will run from Wednesday, June 18 to Wednesday, June 25, 2025.

Chairman of LASIEC, Hon. Justice Bola Okikiolu-Ighile (rtd), reiterated the Commission's commitment to ensuring a transparent, fair, and inclusive electoral process, assuring all stakeholders of a level playing field and strict adherence to global best practices.
