Ex-Police Officer Who Killed Two Family Members, One Other in Badagry Commits Suicide

A former police officer, Charles Atideka, who allegedly killed three people, including two of his family members, has reportedly taken his own life after the tragic incident in Yovoyan community, Badagry, Lagos State.

According to sources, the violent attack, which occurred around 2 a.m., was allegedly motivated by a lingering land dispute involving Charles Atideka and his brothers, David and Richard Atideka. The matter was reportedly in court, with a final judgment expected just two days after the killings.

Eyewitnesses disclosed that Charles, along with unidentified armed accomplices, stormed the premises of his brothers Richard and Latevi Atideka, broke into their rooms, and shot them dead. Another victim, Muji Onilude, from the neighboring Gberefu community, was also killed during the rampage.

David Atideka, who narrowly escaped the attack, recounted the horrifying moment:

"I had stepped out to use the toilet when I noticed two armed men searching my house. I hid and watched as they shot my wife. Before I could react, they had entered my brother’s house and killed him too. One of the attackers was my own brother, Charles Atideka," he said tearfully.

Confirming the incident, Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, revealed that Charles allegedly ingested a poisonous substance after committing the killings. He was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival, report by Punch Newspaper says

“The man who is the suspect in the incident is dead. He killed three people and allegedly took poison after committing the act. His corpse and those of whom he killed have been deposited in the morgue,” Hundeyin stated.

The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.

Community members confirmed hearing gunshots around midnight, with several pointing to the unresolved family land dispute as a potential motive. However, the matter remains under investigation.

The tragic incident has left the community in shock, with many questioning what could have driven the ex-police officer to such a violent act before ending his own life.
