Barring any last-minute changes, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is scheduled to visit the historic town of Badagry on May 15, 2025, to commission the Agbara-Badagry section of the Lagos-Badagry Expressway, Badagry Today has learned exclusively.

Sources familiar with the President’s itinerary, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to publicly discuss the visit, confirmed that the commissioning will be part of events marking President Tinubu’s second year in office.

Signs of preparation are already evident. The contractor handling the reconstruction of the Agbara-Badagry section has notably accelerated work in recent weeks. Our source also revealed that logistical arrangements to ensure a smooth visit are already in full swing.

In addition, Badagry Today gathered that the Chairman of Badagry Local Government, Hon. Olusegun Onilude, has been officially briefed about the President’s upcoming visit.

It will be recalled that Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi, recently announced that President Tinubu would commission the Lagos-Badagry Expressway by May. During an inspection tour of the highway on Thursday, Umahi confirmed that the 46-kilometer stretch—forming the first part of the ECOWAS road extending to the Seme Border and onward to Abidjan—is nearing completion. He emphasized that the project’s commissioning would be a highlight of the President’s two-year anniversary in office.

The Minister further revealed that the federal government has already disbursed N50 billion out of the N71 billion contract sum to the contractor, expressing confidence that the project will be delivered on schedule.

The Agbara-Badagry section, currently undergoing major rehabilitation and expansion into a six-lane expressway, is expected to be fully completed ahead of President Tinubu’s visit on May 15.
