Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on today warmly welcomed Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, into the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing his defection as a major boost for the progressive family.
Governor Sanwo-Olu joined Vice President Kashim Shettima, who represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and several other governors to officially receive Governor Oborevwori into the party at a high-level event marked by camaraderie and optimism.
In a statement shared via his official Facebook page, Sanwo-Olu expressed his excitement over the development, noting that it was not just a political gain, but a reinforcement of a shared commitment to the growth and development of Nigeria.
"Today, I joined HE President Bola Tinubu who was represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima along with other governors to warmly welcome Governor Sheriff Oborevwori into the progressive family of the All Progressives Congress (APC)," Sanwo-Olu wrote.
He emphasized that the occasion symbolized a renewed drive toward strengthening unity and service among Nigeria’s leaders. "Today was an opportunity to reinforce our shared commitment to the growth and development of our great nation, furthering the ideals of progress, unity, and service to our people," he added.
Governor Sanwo-Olu also expressed confidence that the addition of Oborevwori to the APC fold would bolster the party’s collective efforts to deliver good governance and tangible benefits to Nigerians.
"Together, we are stronger, and together we can achieve great things for the citizens we serve," he affirmed.
Governor Oborevwori's move to the APC is seen as a significant political shift in Delta State and the South-South region, with analysts predicting that it will have wide-ranging implications for the political landscape ahead of future elections.
