At the center of the crisis is a closed-door meeting where Adegeye reportedly strong-armed Ward Chairmen, Vice Chairmen, Secretaries, and Youth Leaders into accepting his preferred aspirants, led by Engr. Seyi Ipinlaye, threatening to withdraw his support for anyone who resists.
The move has sparked outrage across the party’s local structure, with members accusing Adegeye of betraying the Labour Party's values of fairness, equity, and internal democracy. What was intended to be a strategic gathering has now exposed deep cracks within the party.
Party insiders say Amuwo Odofin LP Chairman, Mr. Obina, has been cowed into silence, fearing reprisal or outright removal should he oppose Adegeye’s dictates. Reports suggest that executives from the local to the ward level have been intimidated into compliance, stoking further resentment among the rank and file.
“He runs the party structure like a personal empire,” an aggrieved party executive said under anonymity. “Dissent is met with threats. If this continues, the Labour Party will be heading into the LG elections in disarray.”
As discontent deepens, concerned stakeholders are demanding immediate intervention from the Labour Party’s national leadership to rescue the Amuwo Odofin chapter from what they describe as imminent collapse.
With the Local Government elections fast approaching, questions loom large: Will Adegeye’s controversial tactics derail the party’s chances? Can unity be restored before the polls? Or will the Labour Party watch its grassroots support erode under the weight of internal tyranny?
The situation in Amuwo Odofin signals more than just a local rift—it threatens the Labour Party’s credibility at the polls if urgent steps are not taken.
