Despite calls from her father to step aside in the spirit of equity and fairness, Princess Damilola Sonayon James is forging ahead with her ambition to become Chairman of Badagry West Local Council Development Area (LCDA).

Princess Damilola, a top contender for the chairmanship under the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), has officially purchased and submitted her party’s nomination form, confirming her commitment to the race. Her campaign team made this known in a statement issued shortly after our initial report on his father's appeal

Reacting to a recent report by Badagry Today, which claimed the monarch of Kweme Kingdom, HRM Oba Olalekan Sejiro James, had urged his daughter to withdraw from the race, Princess Damilola’s team set the record straight.

The statement read:
"We, the team of Princess Damilola Sonayon James, Chairmanship Aspirant for Badagry West LCDA, are compelled to address a recent publication by Badagry Today titled 'Council Polls: Oba of Kweme Urges Daughter, Princess Damilola James, to Step Down for Equity and Fairness.'

We categorically debunk the claims made in the article and urge the good people of Badagry West LCDA to stay informed and not be swayed by rumors. Our principal has obtained the nomination form and completed all necessary requirements. She is in high spirits and fully prepared to contest in the primary election scheduled for May 10th.

Council Polls: Oba of Kweme Urges Daughter, Princess Damilola James, to Step Down for Equity and Fairness

We firmly believe in Princess Damilola’s vision and leadership potential to move Badagry West LCDA forward. We encourage the public to focus on her ideas, integrity, and dedication, rather than on baseless reports."

The backdrop to the controversy stems from an appeal made by Oba Olalekan Sejiro James, who cited the need for fairness among the council’s wards. According to the king, Ward A — from where Princess Damilola hails — has previously produced a chairman, while Wards C and E have yet to have their turn since the council’s creation. He had therefore urged his daughter to step aside to allow a fair rotation of leadership.

However, Princess Damilola has chosen to remain in the race, standing firm on her aspiration to lead Badagry West LCDA.

As the May 10th primary approaches, all eyes remain on the unfolding developments within the APC in Badagry West.
