…Laments Poor Development Despite Bogus LG Allocation

The monarch's caution comes amid reports of certain Islamic clerics allegedly endorsing a political candidate on religious grounds ahead of the forthcoming local government elections. Oba James condemned the development, describing it as a dangerous trend capable of igniting religious tension and disrupting the peaceful coexistence enjoyed by Muslims, Christians, and traditional worshippers in Badagry West.
Speaking during a royal visit by Princess Oluremi Fumilola Nutayi Ajose, a chairmanship aspirant under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the monarch said, “It is unfortunate that some Imams have allowed themselves to be used for political purposes. Signing petitions in favour of a particular candidate because of religion is not only divisive but dishonourable for people in such sacred positions.”
He, however, praised the Christian community for maintaining neutrality and upholding the sanctity of their spiritual responsibilities.
While offering his royal blessings to Princess Oluremi, the monarch threw his weight and that of the traditional institution behind her ambition. Oba James justified the endorsement on the grounds of equity, fairness, and justice, noting the rotational imbalance in the leadership of Badagry West LCDA. He stated that while the old Apa Ward has never produced an executive chairman since the council’s creation, the other ward has done so three times. He added that among the newly created wards, Wards A, B, and D have also produced chairmen, leaving Wards C and E sidelined.
"In the spirit of fairness, Ward C should produce the next chairman, and since there is a gentleman’s agreement that Ward E will produce the vice chairman, we believe it is only right that Princess Oluremi from Ward C be supported. She is the consensus candidate of the royal fathers in Badagry West,” he declared.
The Akweno also expressed deep concern over the state of underdevelopment in Badagry West LCDA despite what he described as a "bogus" monthly federal allocation. “I used to show little interest in council affairs, but after discovering the enormous funds being received monthly, I was shocked. There is nothing on ground to reflect such allocations. Development is virtually absent,” he lamented
