In a surprising political twist, Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has publicly thrown his weight behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, affirming his loyalty and expressing confidence that the President will complete his constitutionally allowed second term in office.

Governor Eno, elected under the banner of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2023, made the declaration during the flag-off ceremony of the Akwa Ibom section of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway on Tuesday.

Speaking with visible admiration for the APC-led Federal Government, Eno said, “Let me end by assuring that our president, our people-loving president, who will complete 8 years because we are going to stand by him — my leader, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu — will not allow the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway to turn into another East-West Road. He is a father and a promise keeper.”

The PDP governor's open endorsement of President Tinubu and his policies has raised eyebrows within political circles, especially as the 2027 general elections approach. Rather than toeing the traditional partisan line, Governor Eno appeared focused on development and collaboration with the presidency.

He further offered prayers for President Tinubu’s health and strength, asking God to grant him the capacity to complete his ongoing projects. Eno also reaffirmed his commitment to working with Tinubu’s administration, signaling a new wave of cross-party cooperation.

His remarks have stirred speculation about shifting allegiances within the PDP and underscore Tinubu’s growing influence across party lines.
